About the Position

Are you an admitted attorney with some Environmental and/or Agricultural Law experience? Are you looking for an opportunity to become specialised in a unique industry? Well here's your chance to join a dynamic organisation in which you will be exposed to facilitating compliance with the Sugar Act, the Sugar Industry Agreement, the SASA Constitution and agricultural legislation.

For the first time, SASA's Research Institute is offering an excellent contract work experience opportunity for admitted attorneys who have an interest in Environmental/Agricultural Law. This position is based in Mount Edgecombe but some travelling may be required. The successful incumbent will not only benefit from guidance from experienced attorneys and industry specialists but will in addition gain exposure in the following:

  • Researching pest and disease legislation to support the formulation of procedures relating to compliance

  • Formulating legal recommendations to support bio security initiatives by undertaking in-depth research

  • Drafting and reviewing of contracts

  • Attending to administrative tasks related to statutory compliance

  • Drafting of policies, procedures and frameworks

  • Monitoring SASRI's Intellectual Property.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor of Laws(LLB) degree

  • An admitted attorney

  • Experience in Agricultural and/or Environmental Law

Important skills and qualities to succeed in this role are:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Be able to plan and prioritise tasks

  • Excellent analysis skills

  • An individual who is comfortable working as part of a team

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times

Term of the programme:

  • Participants will be offered an initial 3 month contract with an option to extend by a further 9 months provided they perform to the required standards.
