About the Position

The hedging, marketing and sales of South Africa's bulk raw sugar is performed by the Sugar Markets and Logistics Division. The division focuses on achieving maximum net proceeds within an acceptable level of risk.

We are currently seeking a strong Export Accounting Manager to work closely with the trading team and other internal departments. This position reports to the Commercial Director.

The overall responsibility of this role is to provide accounting support to the Sugar Markets and Logistics Division, contributing to their effort to maximize net proceeds to the industry through the effective management of all export marketing operations of hedging, physical sales, logistics and accounting.

This includes:

* Managing the SASA derivative hedge book by ensuring accuracy of the positions and effecting any margin calls or receipts, whilst liaising closely with SASA's Treasury department;
* Execute mandates for pricing with brokerage companies;
* Providing support to the physical contracting of sugar, including drafting contracts and ensuring that all contracts are accurate and distributed in a timeous manner;
* Manage the in house accounting system for the sugar industry's export markets and develop estimates of exports proceeds for approval by the division's Finance and Administration Manager and Commercial Director;
* Be responsible for the recording and administration of all export sales in the relevant databases;

Summarise global analyses of world sugar information to aid decision making;
* Providing key support on various projects to the Commercial Director.

Must haves for this role include:

A 3 year tertiary commercial qualification with management accounting as a major. Your degree with also have included Economics to second level. Ideally this qualification should be supported by 3 to 5 years' experience in a logistics or manufacturing environment.

You will also have:

* An interest in commodity trading and hedging;
* A willingness to develop your career in the commodity field;
* A quality orientation, a structured and organised work style and a high degree of flexibility and commitment;
* The ability to communicate excellently (verbally and written) in presenting research and market analysis.
* A willingness to work as part of a team.

Applicants would need to be South African nationals with no impairment to their credit or criminal record.

  • Proficiency in MS Excel, in particular the use of advanced formulas and the data modelling functionality of Excel.
  • Methodical and diligent execution of tasks, as guided by SASA's principles document
  • Produce clear and succinct market reports for distribution to internal and external audiences
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders


Experience

  • Accounting in a logistics or manufacturing environment.

Knowledge

  • General understanding of how future markets work
  • Broad understanding of global economics
